stariceling: (wip)
I thought I'd ask here before trying to go off and seek out a Tintin com.

I have somehow stumbled into writing a slightly massive fic. First draft is maybe 3/4ths done. Due to the size and general ambitiousness of the piece and wanting to put my best foot forward I feel like this really needs a beta. Problem? My usual beta isn't in this fandom.

Details of the job if anyone's interested:
  • Movie-centric. I need someone who's watched the new CGI movie.
  • Based on this prompt. Movie villain/Tintin one-sided obsession.
  • Apart from the basics (spelling, grammar, characterization, gaping plot holes, general stupid mistakes) I need a lot of subjective help.
  • Things I am worrying about include: Is my prose too purple or not flowery enough? Are my actions scenes too choppy or do they drag? Are scenes adapted from the movie clear without being boring to read? Did I nerf the bad guy or make him far too damn creepy? Are other character's motivations and relationships clear even while looking through only one character's eyes? (This last is a pretty big one for me. Enough that I have about 3 scenes plotted out just going "no, actually they were thinking this." I cannot decide if it is admitting defeat by my own poor writing skills to write and include them.)
  • I do need someone who has the time and willingness to take a critical eye and not hold back in telling me what needs fixing.
  • Fic is currently about 8,500 words, but it should pass 10,000 by the time I've finished. No deadline on the fic, so take all the time you need.

Um... is you've also read the books (books specifically, I keep catching myself referencing things that weren't in the cartoon) and want to beta some Tintin and Chang friendship fic tidbits, that would be a huge bonus. Though mostly I am confident they succeed in being pleasantly fluffy. This is just me being painfully shy and uncertain because new fandom and I am going against some fandom conventions.

I will try my best not to be melodramatic about this. It's just I'm having a crisis of suddenly hating my own writing style. Not that this stops me churning out wordswordswords in that same style because I am so slow at fixing myself.
